50G Whitby allocated NER A8 4-6-2T No 69890 in Ravenscar station in c1955. The station does not even merit a footbridge but by the point rodding the signal box was behind the photographer.

Ravenscar was 'the station that almost was' - the area was to be developed as a seaside resort to rival Scarborough, but it never materialised and in the event only a few houses were built - one of which can be seen behind the loco. The station always had a "temporary" look about it. The wooden station buildings (including the small signal box) was on the Scarborough direction platform behind the train. The point rodding from the loop points run under the wooden Whitby platform and then cross to the box on the other platform at the "tunnel" end of the station.
