Peter Kerslake says "The final member of the class 72009 Clan Stewart built at Crewe in April 1952 spent four weeks on loan to the Eastern Region in September 1958, allocated to Stratford Depot. There had apparently been proposals to exchange five Clans with a number of the Eastern Region's Britannias but the plan was abandoned, and I suspect that the Eastern Region's footplate crews were not too happy with the prospect of having less powerful machines with which to work, especially as their Britannias had been so well received at both Stratford and Norwich."
