72007 1965-08-26 Carlisle Etterby Bridge

BR 6MT 4-6-2 No 72007 Clan MacKintosh with the 09.00 Carlisle-Glasgow St.Enoch passing Etterby Bridge on 26 August 1965.

Peter Kerslake says "A scaled down version of the 'Britannias' the first 'Clan' 72000 entered service from Crewe Works in December 1951, the class intended for use between Perth and Inverness but in the event the initial five were sent to Glasgow's Polmadie Motive Power Depot with the last five allocated to Carlisle Kingmoor, the locomotives remaining at their respective homes until 1958 when a number were sent to Edinburgh Haymarket and St. Margarets.
Following an ill conceived plan in September of 1958 the last of the class , 72009 'Clan Stewart' was sent from Kingmoor down to Stratford Depot but the idea of an exchange with the Stratford 'Britannias' did not go down with any degree of favour by those at Stratford who promptly sent the 'Clan' back home again.
Withdrawals began in December of 1962 when the first five were stored out of use before meeting their end at Darlington in early 1964".
