72007 1952-09-04 Kingmoor
BR 6MT 4-6-2 No 72007 Clan MacKintosh on shed at Carlisle Kingmoor on 4 September 1952.
Peter Keslake says "Not working across the border in Scotland as initially intended 72007 'Clan Mackintosh' is here at Carlisle Kingmoor shortly after having entered service in early 1952 and not working between Perth and Inverness as planned but rostered to duties on the West Coast main line and the Settle to Carlisle route on passenger express services principally between Glasgow and Manchester.
Soon gaining a poor reputation by the crews for heavy demands on coal with poor steaming capabilities and following an abortive plan to exchange them in 1958 with some of Stratford's 'Britannias' from the Eastern Region the first five 'Clans' were taken out of service in late 1962 with 72006 'Clan Mackenzie' the last to survive until May of 1966.
72007 seen here appears to have lasted until May or thereabouts in 1965".
