72007 1950s Beattock

BR 6MT 4-6-2 No 72007 Clan MacKintosh on a northbound express climbing Beattock in the mid 1950s.

Peter Kerslake says "Housed at Carlisle Kingmoor from newly built in early 1952 and not shedded north of the border as had been initially planned 72007 'Clan Mackintosh' is making light work of the climb to Beattock summit amidst typical scenery, but the class did not find favour with the footplate crews who regarded them as poor steamers with a heavy appetite for coal.
Plans in 1958 to exchange a number with a few of the Eastern Region's 'Britannias' housed at Stratford proved abortive and the first withdrawals of the 'Clans' took place in December of 1962 when the initial five were taken into store before being disposed of at Darlington, the last to survive being 72006 'Clan Mackenzie' which remained in service until late May of 1966".
