31075 1956-05 Redhill MPD

31075 1956-05 Redhill MPD

Ex-South Eastern & Chatham Railway Wainwright 'D' class 4-4-0 No. 31075. Built by Dubs & Co. of Glasgow in March 1903 as SE&CR No. 75 and withdrawn in December 1956.

There are many contenders for the 'most elegant British 4-4-0' prize. Although 31075, sitting on Redhill MPD's turntable in May 1956 is not at its sparkling best, its classic lines have all the grace that its designer intended. To see the 'real thing' just visit the NRM in York and witness how this class once looked by viewing ex-BR 31737 in all the original glory of Harry Wainwright's superb SE&CR livery.
