D0260 1962-05-17 High Wycombe

D0260 Lion passes High Wycombe with the 12.10pm Paddington to Birkenhead Woodside express on May 17, 1962.
allocated to Oxley the experimental "Lion" in its white livery underwent main line passenger duties between Wolverhampton and Paddington which entailed leaving Wolverhampton at 7:25a.m. for Paddington, returning home on the 12:10p.m. departure from the Capital as seen here, then running back again to Paddington on the 3.35pm from Wolverhampton, with its final run the 7.10pm from Paddington back home, usually loaded to eleven coaches.
On the day of this photograph, however, it all proved too much for "Lion" which failed on its last evening run and it only got as far as Harbury, just south of Leamington."
