No 6166 Earl Haig, 4 cylinder GC 4-6-0 built 1917, as B3/2 after fitting with Caprotti valve gear in 1929. photographed on a local train passing Great Missenden in 1940. Three years later it was rebuilt by Thompson (retaining very little -if anything- of the original) into the sole B3/3 No 1497, an experimental 2- cylinder design with a B1 boiler, which led to the rebuilding of B17s to B2s. The rebuilt engine did not last long, being scrapped as No 61497 in 1949.
