1165 1924 Stratford Brook Box

1165 1924 Stratford Brook Box

Following amalgamation into the newly formed LNER, ex-Great Central locomotives were to be seen more frequently on ex-GNR metals. This lovely 1924 photograph sees the ex-GCR Robinson 'war memorial' '9P' (LNER 'B3') No. 1165 'Valour' with an up Pullman train, passing the closed Stratford Brook Box in Cambridgeshire. It is still in full GCR livery. Prior to this negative surfacing, there was believed to be no clear photograph of this short-lived signalbox. 1165 was built at Gorton in July 1920 and was withdrawn in Dec. 1947 as LNER No. 1496.
