92004 1954-03-13 Ebbw Junction

BR 9F 2-10-0 No 92004 at Ebbw Junction shed on 13 March 1954.

Peter Kerslake says "The front end of 92004 confirms that the engine is not long out from construction at Crewe just a short while before this photograph from March 1954 as would be its sister behind, both here at Ebbw Junction M.P.D.
The first ten of the newly built "9F's" were intended for service from here on the heavily loaded iron ore workings centred around Newport, the hub of steel production, but they failed to impress the Welsh footplate men, the drivers complaining that the brakes and regulators were not fit for purpose.
Consequently the "9F's" time at Ebbw Vale was cut short and they were moved away, a number going to Bristol whilst 92008 and 92009 went from new direct to Wellingborough for use on the Toton to Brent coal trains."
