40085 1959 Portmadoc

LMS 3P 2-62T No 40085 waits at Portmadoc with a train for Pwllheli.

Peter Kerslake says "Photographed from the station footbridge, this view is westwards towards the terminus at Pwllheli and shows the extensive freight yards with the goods shed adjoining the "down" platform. The hut at the end of that same platform behind the water column houses the ground frame and single line token release equipment as the Portmadoc West Signal box which had originally been located at this end of the station, and was closed in 1932.
The local "spotters" are out in force and the edge of the two road engine shed is just visible on the extreme right; it was a sub shed of Machynlleth."
