M161 160 1948-06-10 London St Pancras

St Pancras in 1948 with two Stanier 2-6-2Ts on empty stock work.
A glimpse of what St Pancras looked like 63 years ago. Everything was filthy. Just after Nationalisation, the locomotive at Platform 1 still has its LMS number, while the one at Platform 2 has the 'M' prefix temporarily added before the decision was made to add 40,000 to all LMS numbers; both engines dated from 1937 and lasted until 1959-60. Carriage stock for trains from St Pancras had to be brought all the way in from Cricklewood Sidings.
