1013 1960-06-03 Birmingham Snow Hill
One of Shrewsbury's allocation of the County class in the shape of 1013,County of Dorset runs into Snow Hill on what looks like a Paddington bound working on 3rd June 1960. Shrewsbury had a few years previously shared with Bristol Bath Road the distinction of having the most numbers of the class on their books, with six being allocated to each of those two Motive Power Depots, the remaining eighteenCounties being shedded as far afield as Penzance and Truro in the far west and at Swindon, Laira, Chester and Neyland . 1013 was often used by Shrewsbury's Shedmasters on theNorth to West passenger rosters, in company with its five sisters there, working down from home as far as Newton Abbot (and once even as far as Laira) via the Severn Tunnel, a duty shared with Newton Abbot and its engines, although Newton Abbot was obliged to roster one of theirCastles to those duties as they had noCounties.
