Industrial Austerity Wizard 1966c Walkden

Industrial Austerity Wizard 1966c Walkden

Austerities WIZARD (Hunslet 3843 of 1956) and WASP (Hunslet 3808 of 1954) at Walkden Workshops in about 1966. This is a good view of the Giesel chimney on Wizard showing the circular tank cut out and plating above the smokebox door to give the appearance of a solid tank from ground level. WIZARD was to serve at Walkden until late 1968 and was cut up there by the following April. WASP was altered from a Giesel ejector in 1963 and fitted with the Hunslet complete combustion system incorporating a steam driven mechanical stoker and a Kylpor blast pipe and conical chimney as seen here. She was retired in August 1967 and cut up 14 months later. The line to Mosley Common extends in the distance, protected by the home signal and there is another Austerity on a train standing there
