6808 1959-06-30 Totnes

An impressive overhead view of Totnes station looking Westwards with Penzance allocated 6808 " Beenham Grange " running towards Newton Abbot on the up through road with an express parcels, the load not requiring a pilot engine although Dainton bank lies immediately ahead.
Note the two through roads here, as Totnes lies between Rattery Bank to the West and Dainton to the East, with the need for non stop services to have a clear run through the station in both directions.
Just visible in the right distance is a milk tank wagon, Totnes being an important location for milk production with a creamery adjacent to the station from where the daily afternoon Kensington milk workiing would pick up additional fully loaded tank wagons.
