63770 1960s Colwick MPD
For those who have only seen steam in the preservation era and believe that locomotive liveries were always a glistening joy to behold, this photograph will rapidly dispel that myth. Although 'back in the day' clean locomotives were to be seen occasionally, 63770 is in a rather more frequently seen version of BR livery! It was one of the many modified variants ('O4/7') of John Robinson's Great Central Railway-designed 'O4' 2-8-0s. She was built by NBL of Glasgow in April 1918 as ROD No. 1863 and was eventually transferred to LNER stock in March 1928. Withdrawal came in December 1965.
