LMS designed Stanier 'Black 5' class 4-6-0 No. 44689. Built at Horwich in September 1950 and withdrawn in March 1967.

The prevailing westerly wind from Morecambe Bay has characteristically beveled the line of trees on the left. Beyond them in the far distance can be seen the hills of the Lake District. This September 1963 scene is at Skerton on the northerly approach to Lancaster as BR built 44689 approaches with an up mixed freight.
