Ex-LNER Gresley 'A3' class 4-6-2 No. 71 'Tranquil'. Built by NBL of Glasgow in September 1924 as LNER No. 2570 and withdrawn in October 1964.

Appropriately to its name, 'Tranquil' is at rest under a magnificent, brooding sky that has allowed a shaft of sunlight to illuminate the locomotive to perfection. The scene is Haymarket MPD, Edinburgh on an unrecorded day in 1948.
