63716 1953-06 Oxspring Tunnel

Great Central Railway designed Robinson '8K' (LNER 'O4/3') class 2-8-0 No. 67316. Built by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn of Newcastle in February 1919 as ROD No. 1696 and withdrawn in July 1960.

On the long-closed ex-Great Central route from Wath to Penistone that had been electrified in 1952, steam still appeared for a few years as witnessed by this June 1953 of 63716 emerging from the smoking bore of Oxpring Tunnel. The train will shortly join the Sheffield to Manchester line at Penistone and continue it's journey towards Woohead.
