Leeds City Station was a joint venture by the NER & L&NWR and opened in 1869. It's Stygian gloom and smoky interior were notorious and this photograph illustrates that fact perfectly! In April 1953; ex-LNER Gresley A3 No. 60084 'Trigo' is beginning her northbound departure on the ex-NER route for Harrogate. She was built at Doncaster in Feb. 1930 as LNER No. 2595 and was withdrawn in Nov. 1964.
