Until the electric catenary arrived and the centre roads were removed, this view at the north end of York Station had remained largely unchanged for over 100 years. In BR blue livery, ex-LNER Gresley 'A4' 60021 'Wild Swan' has steam to spare with the down 'Flying Scotsman'. Photo dated 1953 but this is possibly earlier about 1950 when 60021 had received its BR blue livery but the headboard was still LNER in style. The 'teak' liveried Thompson coaches would also suggest this earlier date .
