60071 1961-11-03 Doncaster Works

The story behind King's Cross shedmaster Peter Townend's recommendation and BR's acceptance that the 'Witte' pattern of smoke deflectors should be fitted to the 'A3s' is well documented. A scene showing the actual fitting at Doncaster 'Plant' would appear to be unique. The recipient is Gateshead allocated and fresh from overhaul, 60071 'Tranquil' and the date is Friday 3rd November 1961.
