The south end of Doncaster Station could be guaranteed to produce a motley selection of railway enthusiasts of all ages, though usually (as here) they were youngsters. My own frequent forays here began in 1957 when I was aged eight, traveling from Wakefield Westgate to spend many happy days 'platform ending' at 'Donny'. BR built Thompson 'B1' 61389 is passing with an up flat wagon train whilst ex-LNER Gresley 'A3' 60066 'Merry Hampton' is waiting to depart with an up express. Saturday 27th May 1961.
