60048 1959 York

60048 1959 York

The north end of York Station was a favourite haunt of 'spotters' with a constant flow of up (as here) and down trains of all types. There was the added bonus of frequent loco movements to and from the MPD. Ex-LNER Gresley 'A3' No. 60048 'Doncaster' heads a southbound express in 1959 with 61467, one of York's many B16s, coming in on the lines from Yorkshire's east coast. 60048 was built at Doncaster in Aug. 1924 as LNER No. 2547 and was withdrawn in Sept. 1963.
