1463 1925-07-02 Darlington

In July 1925 the LNER celebrated the Centenary of the Stockton & Darlington Railway in style. An amazing 54 locomotive cavalcade of milestones in locomotive design and construction (mainly but not exclusively from the LNER) was on public display at Darlington, many including some of the most ancient, were steamed for the occasion. Exhibit No. 20 was ex-North Eastern Railway Tennant '1463' class 2-4-0 prototype No.1463. It was built at Darlington in May 1885 and was withdrawn in August 1927 and thankfully preserved.
