61161 1965-05-21 Wakefield Westgate Yard

61161 1965-05-21 Wakefield Westgate Yard

In May 1965, ex-LNER Thompson B1 No. 61161 is facing Leeds and shunting the yard at Wakefield Westgate Station. The distinctive domed church of St. John's rises above the skyline. The original 1867 Westgate station was immediately to the right and the newly-built Westgate and its large adjacent multi-storey car park completed in 2013 now occupies the yard and obscure all that can be seen here. 61161 was built by Vulcan Foundry in May 1947 as LNER No. 1161 and withdrawn in Dec. 1966.
