York's Clifton carriage sidings were adjacent to the MPD, just north of the station. The well-maintained privet bushes added a little greenery to an otherwise ballast-coloured environment! An elderly ex-NER Worsdell 'J72' was usually here shuffling the stock into appropriate formations and one such is on the left. A Heaton (52B) allocated ex-LNER Gresley 'V2' 2-6-2 No. 60978 is reversing back the the station to take its next train north. It was built at Darlington in December 1943 as LNER No. 3690 and was withdrawn in November 1962.
