75029 1964-10-03 Dolgellau
Peter Kerslake says " A nice image of Standard 75029 at Dolgellau , otherwise referred to as Dolgelley , the engine having been newly allocated to Oxford in her earlier days and now heading an " up "working away from Barmouth Junction in this view.
Situated on the main line northeastwards from Barmouth Junction which served Bala and onwards to Ruabon the name was changed from Dolgelley to Dolgellau in late 1959 , the station being unique in having building reflecting both G.W.R. and Cambrian styles of architecture reflecting back to when it had been served by workings by both companies in past years .
Visible in this view are the former Cambrian Railway's buildings situated on the " Down " platform , with their ornate end of the canopy, this location being particularly vulnerable to the gales on this stretch of coastline running down to Barmouth , the line being less than ten feet above the waters of the Afon Wnion river .
