Ex-Southern Railway Bulleid 'Battle of Britain' class 4-6-2 No. s21C167 'Tangmere'. Built at Brighton in Sept. 1947 as SR No. 21C147, withdrawn in Nov.1963 and preserved. The early years of nationalisation saw a deal of indecision regarding both livery and numbering. At Brighton MPD in January 1948 we can see great and confusing variety in just one locomotive. Southern Railway roundel still on the smokebox. 'S' prefix to the old SR numbering, British Railways in full 'sunshine' lettering on the tender and Malachite Green livery with yellow boiler stripes.
