Ex-Southern Railway Bulleid ‘Merchant Navy’ class 4-6-2 No. 35001 ‘Channel Packet’ on an up Waterloo to Exmouth working at Exeter Central Station on Saturday 5 August 1962. Rebuilt by 1959 with the streamlined casing removed and chain valve gear replaced by Walschaerts valve gear. Built at Eastleigh in June 1941 and withdrawn in November 1964. The Fireman is Roy Doddrell of Exmouth Junction MPD and lived in Lympstone Village. He left the Railway in 1968 and started a successful plumbing business in and around Exmouth.
