With its crew immortalised in celluloid, ex-South Eastern & Chatham Railway 'L' class 4-4-0 is photographed in wartime grey livery at Bricklayer's Arms MPD circa 1918. This class of 22 locomotives were designed by Harry Wainwright but built under Richard Maunsell's tenure. Ten of the class were built by Borsig of Berlin and delivered in kit form just before the outbreak of war. Remarkably, the SE&CR paid in full when hostilities ceased! No.760 was one of 12 built by Beyer Peacock in 1914 and was withdrawn in 1961 as BR No. 31760.
