Douglas Earle Marsh's huge Pacific 'J1' (No. 325) and 'J2' (No. 326) class tanks, built for the London, Brighton & South Coast railway were certainly impressive machines. The 'J2' was a slight modification incorporating Walschaerts valve gear instead of Stephenson gear as fitted to the 'J1'. This fine 1924 portrait in the loco yard at London Victoria Station, sees No. 326 retaining its old number but with its LB&SCR livery and name 'Bessborough' painted out.The two locomotives were built in Dec. 1910 and March 1912 respectively and both would be withdrawn in June 1951 as BR Nos. 32325 and 32326.
