J35 0-6-0 No 64491 shunts a long train of empty coal wagons at Rothes Colliery, just south of Thornton Junction, in Spring 1962. This modern coal mine, which had opened in 1957, was to be closed in 1962 after the sea flodded the workings. The enclosed winding towers were demolished in 1993.
