D2852 1969c Allerton

One of the Yorkshire Engine Company 0-4-0 diesel-hydraulic shunters powered by a 170 bhp Rolls Royce engine, No. D2852 at Allerton in about 1969. It went to Bank Hall from new in October 1960, moving to Speke Junction in October 1966 and then Allerton in May 1968 when Speke closed. It was stored from July 1971 until finally withdrawn in late 1973 by which time the work in Liverpool docks for which the class had been designed had virtually ceased, the last working requiring their use being the low level goods yard by Exchange Station. The last three received TOPS numbers but were virtually redundant, one being used as DMU shed pilot as seen here, the others were spare.
