Peter Kerslake says "This fine view of Kings Lynn shows a departing working with the terminus station from which it has just departed just visible on the extreme left and the back, or "London End" of the Motive Power Depot behind the stock and extensive freight yards on the right .
The facing Home Signal to the left of the fourth coach, with its route indicator display, is the last of three signals for enginemen to watch out for as they run over the sweeping left hand curve into the station whilst the tall gantry on the left is for departing services to Ely, Dereham and Hunstanton.
All the customary Depot structures are hidden in this view, the turntable, water tower and stabling roads being at the far side of the Depot, a twin building covering four roads with the outlet for locomotives coming off shed at this nearer end"
