North British Railway Reid 'S' (LNER 'J37') class 0-6-0 No. 128. Built at Cowlairs in August 1921 and withdrawn in October 1964 as BR No. 64636.

The very sturdy lines of William Reid's 'S' class 0-6-0s are seen in this circa 1923 photograph taken at an unidentifed MPD, probably Thornton Junction. A total of 104 of these very powerful and successful machines were built for long distance goods and mineral services on the NBR's main lines. Occasional passenger and excursion traffic was also within their remit. The last 'J37' was still in service until 1967. Restored from a period postcard.
