42396 1959-03-15 Derby shed

No.42396 on shed on 15th March 1959 was one of the Fowler 2-6-4Ts built with the so-called 'limousine' cab with side windows and full height doors instead of the original cut-outs on either side of the gangway. These were introduced on the final batch of the class to cure severe problems with draught when running bunker first. No.42396 was allocated to Tebay and would have been one of the engines used to bank trains up to Shap; the improved cab would have been appreciated by crews in that exposed part of the country.
