The 125 Fowler LMS '4P' class of 2-6-4 Tanks built between 1927 and 1934 were the highly successful forerunners of all the Stanier, Fairburn and Riddles variants that followed. Interestingly, many lasted almost as long as their successors! The clean, purposeful lines of 42397 are captured in ex-works condition at Derby MPD in July 1954 prior to being returned to Longsight MPD (9A).
