42416 1962c Saltley

No.42416, pictured on an empty stock working passing through Saltley station, arrived from Bangor in August 1960 and stayed until transferred to Stafford in May 1964. The fact that it returned within a month and was withdrawn a week later suggests that this may have been a ‘paper’ transfer. The building on the right is the former Midland Railway Carriage and Wagon Company works which became part of the Metropolitan-Cammell group in 1929.

Ed Purcell comments -"This Saltley loco appears to have collected the ECS from the sidings near to Church Road and is working them to New Street for an early afternoon (judging by the shadows) local on the Redditch / Aschurch line."
