The locomotive is a J69 class according to Yeadons, (It's all about boiler pressure and size of side tanks). Built January 1896 as a class R24 passenger locomotive number 7392.Renumbered 8568 25 August 1946 8568 was the last loco to carry the LNER lettering and number. It carried these until 27 February 1956 when it entered Stratford Works for a General Overhaul. The loco was not renumbered until 1946 and appears to be carrying a 30A shedplate. The date must therefore be between 21 June 1953, when the loco was transferred to Stratford and 27 February 1956. The condensing apparatus was removed on its visit to Stratford Works in 1927 and all subsequent works attention was carried out at Cowlairs or Inverurie, until its final works visit to Stratford in 1956.
