4705 1932 Teignmouth
GWR 47XX 2-8-0 No 4705 leaves Teignmouth with an up slow in 1932.
Peter Kerslake says "The handsome and powerful lines of Mr. Churchward's fine "4700" class are shown to full advantage in this splendid shot of 4705 leaving Teignmouth station in 1932 and passing beneath Eastcliff Bridge, Exeter bound on a local stopping service.
Recent track laying work is evident from the sleepers stacked in the foreground, this location being a favoured spot for cameramen and enthusiasts over very many years, the line here many years before having run through the 320 yard long East Teignmouth Tunnel which was opened out into today's deep cutting from 1879.
4705 was destined to spend much of her working life at Old Oak Common and at Southall, with spells at Plymouth's Laira Depot and Bristol St.Phillip's Marsh before ending her days at Southall in December of 1963."
