GWR 28XX 2-8-0 No 3819 with a down ECS train leaves Parson's tunnel at Teignmouth on 2 September 1958.

Peter Kerslake adds "Built into the rock face on the right of Parson's Tunnel is the observation post used to house watchers for any seaborne enemy activity in the bay directed at this vital stretch of line during the last war, a similar facility existing at the approach to Teignmouth with two more posts located above the line on the cliff top. Parson's Tunnel signal box on the left dated from October 1906 but was closed three years later and was boarded up for protection from the sea until 1934 when increased summertime traffic brought it back into commission. although in later years it was in use on Summer Saturdays only until it closed and taken down in 1964."
