60872 1953-10 Doncaster MPD

The 'random' naming of but a few of the ex-LNER Gresley 'V2s' is one of those oddites of locomotive history. Appropriately in Yorkshire, 60872 'King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry' stands in the yard at Doncaster MPD. I have always thought that the 'V2s' fitted with outside steam pipes are more attractive. Perhaps they added a 'sleekness' to the locomotive's lines that the 'monobloc cylinder' versions do not have. This photograph is dated October 1953.
