10202 1952-08-14 Exeter Central

SR 1Co-Co1 diesel-electric No 10202 at Exeter Central on August 14, 1952.

Peter Kerslake adds "10202 backing out to Exmouth Junction was the second of the three main lined diesels introduced on the Southern Region and emerged from Ashford Works in August 1951.
Allocated from new to Nine Elms the locomotive took up a regular roster running from Waterloo down to Exeter Central and back again twice daily.
This view is from the Castle gardens overlooking Central station and shows the impressive covered footbridge with the grim facade of Exeter prison visible through the trees in the left background.
