10201 1958-05-23 Carpenders Park

SR diesel-electric No 10201 passing Carpenders Park with a Euston to Wolverhampton express on May 23, 1958.

Peter Kerslake says "The first of the three main line express passenger diesels built by the Southern Region, 10201 emerged from Ashford Works in November 1950. Following initial trials 10201 was sent to Derby in January 1951 for evaluation at the Technical Centre there, working between St. Pancras and Manchester during the course of those trials. The heavily graded route did not suit the locomotive and it was sent back to Ashford after four weeks. It returned to the London Midland Region in April 1955 allocated to Camden in company with 10202 working West Coast express passenger duties."
