62360 1954-05-15 Middlesborough MPD

Ex-North Eastern Railway Worsdell 'R' (LNER 'D20') class 4-4-0 No. 62360. Built at Gateshead in December 1900 as NER No. 2101 and withdrawn in October 1956.

Worsdell's 'D20s' were amongst the best pre-grouping 4-4-0s ever built. They were long-lived, a testimony to their usefulness and sturdy design. Few changes were made over the years, but re-boilering made changes of chimney (with or without a 'capuchon' or 'windjabber') and a more modern looking smokebox door were two that changed their appearance somewhat. 62360 sits on Middlesborough MPD's turntable in May 1954 with an adjacent 'windjabber' chimneyed 'Q6' 0-8-0 also in view.
