1236 1934-04-01 Gateshead MPD

Ex-North Eastern Railway Worsdell 'R' (LNER 'D20') class 4-4-0 No. 1236. Built at Gateshead in June 1907 as NER No. 1236 and withdrawn in Dec. 1947 as LNER No. 2393. The cavenous interior of Gateshead MPD is seen to good effect in this excellent April 1934 view by the late Henry Casserley. The Gateshead breakdown crane barriered by a wooden wagon, is attached to 1236 presumably ready to depart if the call comes and if it's in steam!
