2028 1920s York Holgate Platforms
One of the best and most elegant 4-4-0 designs ever to grace Britain's railways were Wison Worsdell's celebrated North Eastern Railway 'R' class (LNER 'D20'). Leaving York with an up express for Leeds in early LNER days is immaculate No. 2028. It is passing under the fine gantry at the Holgate platforms that were reserved for race day traffic to avoid congestion in the main station. 2028 was built at Gateshead in Nov. 1900 and survived to Jan. 1951 as BR No. 62357.
