NER D20 4-4-0 No 1147 with a down train at what the photographer called ' No 2 bridge' at Darlington (10.10am) on 4 April 1923.

North of Darlington, just north of Springfield. Not sure why it says "No.2 Bridge" - the photo was taken from overbridge 106 (Salter's Lane) looking south towards bridge 105, Thompson Street. Springfield cabin's Down advanced starter (a nice NER Central Division semaphore without a slotted post) is on the right and in the left distance you can see the junction bracket signals north of the facing connection to the Up independent at Springfield. Just a little way south of bridge 105 on the Down side was a set of GPO pickup and drop posts for the northbound TPOs.
