LNER Gresley 'D49' class 4-4-0 No. 352 'The Meynell'. Built at Darlington in March 1929 and withdrawn in December 1957 as BR No. 62726.
The 'Northern Belle' was a luxury tourist train inaugurated in June 1933 that ran from King's Cross to Harrogate and then divided into portions covering Scotland and (as here in June 1933) Scarborough on the Yorkshire coast.
